The Space Between
We’ve been going through some difficult times – and it’s not over yet. So how do we deal with the loss of our jobs, our businesses, loved ones, freedom? Part of coping with all of this is using our resilience. I believe that everyone has innate wisdom, strength, courage and resilience. It’s there when we need it – but how do we make it work?
Well – what is resilience? At source it’s the ability to bounce back.
So – how do we bounce back? Well basically, we make the decision to! I know that sounds simplistic, but it’s true. You see, great opportunity is disguised by dreadful situations – it’s all in the way you look at it.
When something happens to us in life, there’s a space between the act and the thought we have about it – and in that space is our choice – we decide HOW we’ll think about and hence experience that act.
We choose our attitude to everything that happens in our lives. In the space between, if we’re aware, we can take a breath, and instead of REACTING to the situation, we RESPOND – we decide what our attitude is going to be. We CHOOSE whether to focus on negative or positive thoughts (in broad terms) about the situation.
So in the face of a dreadful situation, if we choose a different way of responding, we can open up the opportunity which may be there underneath. And when our choice is to be strong, to be positive, to believe in ourselves, to understand this will pass, that’s when we make the decision to bounce back. In the space between.
It’s up to us.
Always.
